A: Students are only permitted to remote into lessons when they have committed to going remote for a quarter or are home for documented reasons related to COVID.  A COVID related absence is defined as receiving a positive test result for COVID and/or being identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive.

R:  It is difficult to manage students coming and going into and out of remote learning. Remote learning requires additional time for our teachers to prepare. We simply cannot have a policy that enables parents and students to choose whether they are going to come into school or just remote in for a day or two.  To be able to maintain an effective experience for all, we need to limit remote learning to documented COVID related time away from the building or for those who have committed to remote learning for a quarter.  If your child is ill with some other illness and will be out for a shorter time, your teacher will send work home during that interim period.  

A:  Yes.  If you originally chose to be remote for the entire quarter, you are permitted to forgo that commitment and come back early if need be.

R: We believe children benefit from being in school. The relational aspect of teaching is vital to a child’s achievement and social-emotional well-being. So, we welcome the child back as soon as is possible. 

A: If you suspect your child may have COVID, you should contact your doctor.  While you are waiting for the results from a COVID test, your teacher will organize missed work and send that work to you.  (Please be assured, your teacher will also help your child catch up on any missed work upon his/her return to school.)  If your child tests positive for COVID or has been identified as a close contact, please notify the school nurse at rebecca.ashbrook@chca-oh.org. We will do our best to be ready for your child to begin remote learning 24 hours after your notification to us. On that first day, the teacher will talk with you and help you with the preparations for remote learning. He/she will also provide the missed work for that day before the remote learning begins.

R: If remote learning begins before your child has been tested, he/she may not have COVID and may not need to be out for 14 days. The illness may require a much shorter absence from school. Again, it is more difficult for the student AND the teacher to come in and out of remote learning.  The 24-hour period will give the teacher time to help you and your child get prepared for remote learning.  On that first day, the teacher will talk with you and help you with the preparations for remote learning. He/she will also provide the missed work for that day before the remote learning begins.

A: As soon as you have been identified as a close contact and are asked to quarantine, please notify the school. Once we are notified, the COVID related absence begins and your child will be approved for remote learning. The remote learning will begin once the teacher and the student are prepared.  We will do our best to be ready for your child to begin remote learning 24 hours after your notification to us.  On that first day, the teacher will talk with you and help you with the preparations for remote learning. He/she will also provide the missed work for that day before the remote learning begins.

R: It would not be an efficient use of anyone’s time to go through the remote learning process unless the student is going to be out for a significant amount of time due to COVID.  The teacher will need a day to prep you and your child for the remote learning experience.

A: Please contact our school nurse at rebecca.ashbrook@chca-oh.org.  She will contact the administrators and they will conduct all further notifications.

R: We are trying to streamline the process for you!  Mrs. Ashbrook will be very efficient in the notifications to those who need to be made aware.

A: You will need to help your child navigate the technology during the remote learning experience.  You should have a dedicated place in your home for the “work time.” Depending on the age of your child, you will also need to help your child follow the schedule your teacher gives you for the remote learning experience.  You can certainly help your child with his/her work if needed, but it is good to allow the child to do what he/she can independently. If your child is experiencing much difficulty, you should contact your child’s teacher.  He/she will provide the guidance you and your child need.  Your child should be in regular school uniform wear while in remote learning.

R:  Your child is actually “in” school even though remotely.  We want him/her to have a similar experience in the work at home as he/she would have if in school.

A: First, please don’t panic!  Just email your teacher and he/she will get back to you as soon as possible. Please understand, this might not occur right at that moment.  Your teacher will help your child get caught up if the technology is inhibiting the work. In addition, the teacher will contact our technical support team to see if there is something on our end that can be done.

R: Your teacher is not only serving your remote learner, he/she is also serving our “in-school” students.  We try to maintain an environment for all that is as free from distraction as possible.  We ask you to be patient and your teacher will get to you the first moment it is reasonably possible. We all want your child and all students to have a successful experience.

A: Preschool students who are being isolated or quarantined for 10 to 14 days due to COVID or COVID related circumstances can be in remote learning.  There is no remote learning option for preschoolers for an entire quarter. 

R: It is very difficult to replicate the entire preschool experience in remote learning and we do not have the same technology there that we have for the Lower Elementary grades.  If your child has COVID or is quarantined or isolated for 10 to 14 days due to COVID circumstances, your teacher will send home “activity bags” for your child during that time.
