Audition Information
- Audition Overview: Auditions are required for all cast roles. For cast only, there is a 2 step audition process that requires uploading a video via Flipgrid as described below.
- For a valid audition, you must complete all steps by deadline.
- Call Backs: Please reserve the entire 2 1/2 hour time in case it is needed. No one is cut; if you are “called back,” it means we need to see more from you. Parents will receive an email letting them know if their child should attend the In Person Call Backs. Although additional scenes and song excerpts are used, there is no preparation needed for call backs. Just come ready to read and sing!
STEP 1:
- Cast and Crew: Your child should write a short student bio
- Cast and Crew: You will need calendar conflict dates and times, sweatshirt size, and dietary/health restrictions
- Crew only: Your child should write an essay paragraph including the qualities and experiences that would make them an asset as a crew member
- Complete all forms in UltraCamp: Parent Volunteer, Rehearsal Conflict, etc.
- Complete Step 1 completely before moving on to the next step.
STEP 2:
- Do not edit videos; they should be done in one take (but choose the best one).
- Videos can be portrait or landscape but be sure we can hear and see you easily. Full body is best so we can see how you are using body language to help with the characters.
- You may use the script/music, but please keep it down and away from your face. The more you look at the camera, the better!
- A sibling or parent may read lines off camera.
- Your video will have 3 parts:
- A "slate" - state your full name, grade, and height
- Scene Audition
- Song Audition
- Label your file as the student's first name and last initial (example: Anna B).
- Upload your audition video to Flipgrid using your CHCA email; Join code: chcaflatstanley
Parent Information
- Student/Parent Interest Meetings: Students and parents can learn what it’s like to be in a musical, about the show we are performing, expectations, auditions and ask questions. Recommended for families who are new to theatre AND returning families. If you miss the meeting, see Parent and Student Interest Meeting Notes in Key Links.
- Supporting Your Child: A great resource that will help your family get through auditions and maintain a healthy perspective is in the Key Links: "For Parents Only"
- Transportation for Armleder students to North Campus will be provided for rehearsals. Parents are responsible for their student’s transportation home after rehearsals.
- The first rehearsal (mandatory for everyone) includes taking headshots by our photographer. Students should wear a solid black Tshirt.
- All-Parent Committee Meeting: One parent from each family is strongly encouraged to attend/watch. We will meet in committees and delegate tasks.
- Communication: As different from most CHCA communication, musical parent communication is only coordinated through the one email that you provided during registration. All important messages will be communicated via email so please check it frequently to stay informed! Please add the CHCAMusical6.8@gmail.com email address to your contacts.
- Mandatory Show Fees:
- Cast: $150 (non-refundable) Includes: scripts, meals (tech week), sweatshirt, majority of costume (not shoes, some make-up but not all), and bus transportation.
- Crew: $75 (non-refundable) Includes: meals (tech week), sweatshirt, and bus transportation.
- During online registration, you schedule an automatic payment deducted after the show is cast and the first read-through is held.
- Tickets are $10 each
, All cast and crew members must sell 8 tickets total and can be reserved now via Showtix4U (see Key Links). If the ticket sales requirement is not met by the deadline, you must agree to pay for unsold tickets up to 8 at the $10 rate.
- Parent Volunteers:
- Opportunities are detailed on the Parent Volunteer form completed in UltraCamp.
- Did you know your volunteer hours for The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley JR. make you eligible to become a Friends of Fine Arts (FOFA) Booster member? We appreciate EVERY hour of work dedicated to an amazing production!
Rehearsal Information
- Monday - Friday, after school, some in-person and some Zoom, with an occasional evening or weekend rehearsal. Students must be present for the entire length of each rehearsal to which they are called. Check the rehearsal calendar (coming soon) for dates and times.
- Cast and Crew members are expected to be at all rehearsals involving their role. Submit problems on the Conflict Sheet.
- Be aware that unexcused absences may jeopardize your role.
- Notify the directors at CHCAMusical6.8@gmail.com by 2:00 p.m. if you have an illness or family emergency. Do not send messages with other cast members and/or friends, as that method is unreliable.
- When absent, you must take the responsibility to learn what was missed from a fellow performer. If this is not done, you may be cut from that particular scene due to the fact that most choreography, blocking, and songs are only taught once.
- Transportation for Armleder students to North Campus will be provided for rehearsals. Parents are responsible for their student’s transportation home after rehearsals.
- Rehearsals are going to be FUN! So, come in ready to be an artist!
