A veteran teacher with over 15 years of experience, Mr. Stephen Carter is currently the Director of Entrepreneurship here at CHCA, where he works to fuse innovative education with real-world learning. Mr. Carter has literally been practicing what he preaches as he becomes an entrepreneur himself, launching a new business, The Seed Tree Group, as well as a new page-turning narrative, The Seed Tree: A Financial Fable. Through these new ventures, he is making it his mission to help young people better manage their money.
Mr. Carter’s new book tells the story of a sophomore named Andrew Black, as he navigates the world of finance alongside his instructor, Mr. Sharp. A teen/young adult financial self-help book that blends the beauty of a fictional story with the hard facts and advice of a non-fiction workbook, young people will be drawn in by Andrew’s gripping story while learning about managing their money along the way. Although the story itself may be fictional, the teachings, tips, and tricks are all based on the author’s own experiences. From crafting a budget and obtaining his first job, to setting up a Roth IRA and developing an investment plan, Andrew emerges at the end of the semester with more financial literacy than most adults attain in their lifetimes. With the power of compound interest at his fingertips, Andrew’s journey demonstrates the amazing benefits of getting an early start on the path toward financial intelligence.
This easy-to-read story is chock full of useful advice to help young people get a grip on their finances, now and forever. The book is ideal for teens, young adults, parents, and teachers. Digital, Audio, and Paperback versions can be purchased now on Amazon (https://amzn.to/2YLe9ZO). This is the first book in a series designed to teach money management and wealth building skills to teens. On the heels of this book release, The Seed Tree Group will begin offering engaging online courses to teach personal finance to students of all ages.
Dr. Dean Nicholas, CHCA's Head of School, shares, "As a life-long educator in an independent school, I am constantly asking alumni how well we prepared them for college and beyond. And for all the great things we do to build innovative critical thinkers, somehow we never prepare them well enough for something as basic as how to manage their finances. So, to have Stephen Carter - one of the most engaging and inspiring teachers I know - write a book to help young people think about money and finances is educational gold! This is a book I wish I had read in high school. I will recommend this to educators, parents, and students. In fact, I’m buying copies for my own kids."
Mr. Carter is also the founder of the newly established organization, The Seed Tree Group, which creates curriculum to help teenagers develop a strong foundation in financial literacy. He is a teacher, speaker, and now author and entrepreneur, who is passionate about the future of education.
