Thirty Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy students were recently inducted into the school’s chapter of the International Thespian Society (ITS). Founded in 1929, the mission of ITS is to honor student achievement in the theatre arts. ITS is an honorary organization for high school and middle school theatre students located at more than 4,200 affiliated secondary schools across America, Canada, and abroad.

To be inducted into ITS, students earn points for a variety of theatrical involvement, both on and off the stage. This year’s inductees were involved in acting, student production, and orchestra. Students need a minimum of ten points to be invited to join and then can accumulate points to earn honors and “stars”. Instead of competing against each other or students from other schools, each student is awarded and recognized based on their specific areas of involvement. Opportunities for involvement this year at CHCA included the following productions: Annie, It’s a Wonderful Life, Off the Cuff, 42^nd Street, and The One Act.

The point system has recently changed to reflect the large amount of responsibility and leadership that orchestra members carry, which is a fabulous recognition for the hardworking CHCA pit orchestra. Thirteen of the new inductees qualified based on points earned in two out of three areas - a significant marker of a vibrant program where all parts work together as one team to pull off a successful production.

CHCA’s Artistic Director of Theatre Susan Jung shared, “Every year that we induct new members into ITS, I am astounded by how many students are so invested in the theatre program. Listening to the seniors talk about how much the theatre community means to them and hearing everyone enthusiastically cheer for each other as their name is announced reminds me of the power of having a place where you feel like you belong. It’s my absolute favorite thing about our theatre department.”
