From Tony winners Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, creators of such Broadway classics as Ragtime and Once On This Island, this dazzling show transports its audience from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing con man and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love and family.

Rehearsal
Rehearsal Info
Rehearsal Information
School year rehearsals are generally Monday-Friday from 3:30 – 5:00/5:30 p.m.
In the weeks preceding a performance, rehearsals increase in length and may include weekends. A rehearsal calendar is available within one week of casting.
Cast and Student Production Team (SPT) members are expected to be at all required rehearsals.
If you must miss a rehearsal (OTHER THAN the conflicts you submit in Cast98 at the time of registration), you MUST notify director at Susan.Jung@chca-oh.org BEFORE the fact. Do not send messages with other cast members and/or friends as that method is unreliable. Multiple absences may jeopardize your role even if they are prearranged and excused.
Rehearsal Policies
Rehearsal Policies
Cast Conflicts:
- Pre-known conflicts are submitted in Cast98 during registration.
- New conflicts, late arrivals, or early leave requests should be submitted using Cast98.
- For illness or other unavoidable last-minute conflicts, please email the appropriate Director, either Susan.Jung@chca-oh.org or Jim.Jung@chca-oh.org, depending on the show. The school office does not automatically notify us.
- Please, no new conflicts during pre-tech week or tech week except for illness or family emergencies.
Tip: How to Add a Conflict in Cast98
Stage and Tech Crew Conflicts:
- Any conflicts starting on the Thursday of pre-tech week, as listed on the Rehearsal Calendar, should be cleared ahead of time with Jim Jung at Jim.Jung@chca-oh.org.
- Conflicts, late arrivals, or early leave requests may impact crew assignments.
Cast/Stage and Tech Crew Sickness:
- Stay home if sick, according to school rules, or if in quarantine. Notify the appropriate Director, either Susan.Jung@chca-oh.org or Jim.Jung@chca-oh.org.
- According to school rules, students must attend at least a half day of classes to be eligible to attend rehearsal or the show that day.
Closed Rehearsals:
All rehearsals are for cast, SPT/Crew, and Directors only. Please, no visitors in the house or backstage unless you have been asked to fulfill a specific volunteer job. The goal is to create a professional environment where actors can feel free to make mistakes as they develop their characters. Thank you for your cooperation!
Dismissal:
Rehearsals will end at the time listed on the Rehearsal Calendar. Students may be dismissed at the listed dismissal time from the stage but will need time to gather their belongings. Please remind your student to leave promptly.

Parent Volunteers
Parent Volunteers
At a minimum, we expect at least one parent from each family to serve a minimum of 6 hours in some aspect of pre-production/show weekend. You complete a Theatre Parent Volunteer form during registration to choose your preferences, like helping with sets, costumes, props, etc. and a shift during the show weekend, such as concessions, box office, or Gift-A-Grams.
Did you know your volunteer hours make you eligible to become a Friends of Fine Arts (FOFA) Booster member? We appreciate EVERY hour of work dedicated to an amazing production!
To make your 5 minute appointment (8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.) at the Welcome Center (8283 E. Kemper Rd, 45249), email Judi.Davis@chca-oh.org at least 14 days in advance of when you intend to volunteer. While most background checks clear within 14 days, it can take up to 30 days for a background check to successfully clear; therefore, being proactive well in advance of the starting date of work, a camp or volunteer event is necessary to ensure you get the results back timely.
Please bring:
- Your driver's license or a form of identification if you don't have a driver's license
- A Gr 9-12 student can use their Student ID or passport if they do not have their license. Students will also need to bring the signed Parental Permission form and know their SS#.
Thank you in advance to everyone for volunteering, and for helping to ensure the safety of our students. We appreciate you!
Ordering Policy and Reimbursement
Procedures for Ordering Supplies and Obtaining Reimbursements
Ordering/Purchasing Supplies
Please use our tax-exempt certificate. We do not pay sales tax since we are a school, and this saves us a considerable amount of money. You have 3 options:
-
Come to the Fine Arts office and order online using the Fine Arts credit card. Christine Miller can assist you. Her hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please arrange with Christine in advance of coming to the office.
-
Send a link to Cindy at cindy.edington@chca-oh.org to order for you from Amazon.
-
You may purchase supplies online or in a store using your own money and obtain a reimbursement from us. Please remember to show the tax-exempt certificate at checkout and save all original receipts. Return the receipts to the Fine Arts office for reimbursement.
Obtaining Reimbursements
-
Turn in all original receipts to Christine, along with a completed Reimbursement Request Form (below). Tape receipts onto 8.5" x 11" sheets of paper if they are smaller. If you only have an email receipt, include a printout of that receipt.
-
Label the receipts with the name of the show/event and the category of expenditure (e.g., costumes, makeup, props, etc.).
-
You may bring the receipts to the Fine Arts office at the high school (2nd floor of the theater lobby), leave them in our mailbox in the high school office, or mail them to us at:
Fine Arts Department
11525 Snider Road
Cincinnati, OH 45249 -
We will issue a reimbursement check to you within 2 weeks.
For any questions, please contact Cindy Edington at cindy.edington@chca-oh.org
Senior Boards
Senior Boards
To honor our Seniors’ involvement in the Fine Arts at CHCA, a display celebrating the Class of 2025 will be featured in the Theatre Commons during the run of Anastasia. Each senior family is invited to provide a collage that commemorates their senior. Your participation in creating this special tribute is strongly encouraged but completely voluntary. Please know that if your child is new to fine arts, any of their achievements in sports, academics, robotics, etc., can be recognized in their collage.
Because our space is limited, please adhere to the following guidelines to help facilitate a successful/enjoyable lobby display:
In customizing your display, please:
-
Use a foam board no larger than 20" x 30" as the base to attach your photos, playbills, programs, ticket stubs, etc. Regular posters are too flimsy and can tear easily when hung.
-
Leave a border around every side of your display in case we need to punch holes in the corners for hanging.
-
Attach your items firmly. Glue dots are an easy and stronger adhesive than tape.
OR you can create a board through a photo program and have it printed for you. -
Bring your completed projects to the HS front desk starting Monday of Tech Week, from Monday, 3/10, through Wednesday, 3/12.
-
PLEASE have your Senior take their board home at the conclusion of Sunday’s Matinee. (Save for Grad Party!)
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at: CHCAHSTheatre@gmail.com
Show Week
Tech Week/Show Expectations
Tech Week/Show Expectations
As we begin tech week, please encourage your students to sleep as much as possible, eat healthily, stay hydrated, and keep their distance from anyone with a known illness.
Show T-shirts:
Students should wear them to school on Monday and Friday. Encourage your student to invite anyone who asks about the T-shirt to purchase tickets.
Conflicts/Sickness:
As previously announced, please no conflicts during tech week and shows. Do not ask to arrive late or leave early.
Reminder: stay home if sick, according to school rules, or if in quarantine. Also, according to school rules, students must attend at least a half day of classes to be eligible to attend rehearsal. Notify the Director (either Susan.Jung@chca-oh.org or Jim.Jung@chca-oh.org, depending on the show) as soon as possible. We do not automatically hear from the front office.
Closed Rehearsals:
All rehearsals are for cast, SPT, and Directors only. Please, no visitors in the house or backstage unless you have a specific volunteer job you have been asked to fulfill. The goal is to create a professional environment where actors can feel free to make mistakes as they develop their characters. Thank you for your cooperation!
Dismissal:
Rehearsals will end at the time listed on the Rehearsal Calendar. Students may be dismissed at the listed dismissal time from the stage, but they will need to change out of costume. Please remind your student to change quickly and leave, as they often tend to linger after rehearsals to relax from the intense focus they maintained.
Tech Week Meals:
All cast and crew should arrive in the cafeteria after school no later than 3:00 p.m. (3rd–8th students should arrive as soon as possible). Important Director's notes will be given. If any cast or crew member prefers to bring their own food or order from DoorDash, please make sure you and your meal are in the cafeteria by 3:00 p.m. This is the designated time to eat; eating later will cause you to miss important, required prep time.
Tech Week Snacks:
Approved snacks will be provided by the cafeteria. No DoorDash should be delivered after 3:00 p.m.
Any supplemental snacks brought from home or DoorDash must follow costume-safe guidelines. Please avoid anything chocolate, nuts, messy (like chips with cheese powder), crumbly (like cookies), drinks with added color, and gum. We need to keep our costume areas free of anything that could damage a costume.
Cast Needs from Home:
All items must remain at school from the Friday before tech week until strike after the final show.
Show Call Times:
These times are crucial for preparation. Please speak with the Director, Susan Jung or Jim Jung (depending on the production), ahead of time if you foresee any issues.
Production Party:
For details on the date, time, and location, click here.
Strike:
Mandatory for all students on Sunday after the show.
How Strike Works
How Strike Works
Who: All cast and crew are REQUIRED to stay. Parents and families are welcome to stay to help make this work go faster.
What: The process of undoing everything that has been put together for the show, cleaning up, returning the theatre to pre-show state
Where: All backstage areas and stage
When: After show until dismissal – typically 2 hours
Why: Cleaning up their own show teaches students responsibility and brings closure. Parents and families helping supports Directors and team leaders by allowing the work to be finished quickly – many hands make light work!
How: Please do not make dinner plans for your student right after the show. If you have an unusual circumstance which requires you to leave early, please make arrangements with Susan ahead of time to make up this time in the week after the show.
Each student will be asked to turn in any costume pieces provided, clean & help with a designated area, then report to the stage for set dismantling and cleanup. When they come for the show on Sunday they should dress accordingly (closed toe shoes, practical clothing).
Bring work gloves/drills if you have them.
Please be patient – towards the end of the strike there will be times when only a few people are working but all are needed to stay for all hands calls. For example – 5 adults and students are working to ready an upper floor balcony to come down. When it is ready to come down all hands will be called to ease it to stage level.
At the end of strike we come together on stage for a circle up and prayer. Afterwards students are dismissed.

Sample Bios
Zoe Epp (Storyteller) Zoe is a sophomore and is excited to perform in Children of Eden. Although this
is her theatrical debut, she started dancing at the age of three and continued for nine years,
including dancing competitively for five years. She also participated in Choir in the sixth through
eighth grade. Zoe is excited to try something new and take on a more active role in CHCA’s Fine Arts
program!
Ray Muenzer (Storyteller and Snake) Ray is a sophomore and is enjoying his second year of theatre
at CHCA. Last year, you may have seen him in The One Act, playing in various scenes. You may have
also seen Ray in Something Rotten (Bard Boys/Ensemble) and Matilda Jr. Outside of the theater, he
enjoys playing the piano, golf, tennis, and spending time with friends.
If this is your first show or you don’t have much performance experience, that is OK! Let people know
this is your debut on stage. Tell them what you like to do outside of theatre or how you came to be
involved in it. Thank those who encouraged you to try theatre or helped you prepare for it. If you’ve
taken voice, dance, acting, or instrumental lessons, feel free to include that.
If you have a long list of shows you’ve participated in, pick the most meaningful shows or favorite
roles you’ve played.
Remember that you’re sharing yourself with the whole audience, and you are representing not on
you, but your family, the Theatre Department, and CHCA as well.
