College Essay Brainstorming Workshop:

Description:

Sometimes the hardest part of college essays is figuring out what a student wants a college to know about them.  These identical group workshops are designed to jumpstart ideas and create excitement surrounding this process and occur a week or 2 after junior year ends and repeat the week before senior year begins.

Description:

The week before senior year begins, seniors bring a draft of a completed college essay to be critiqued by a college professional for clarity, content, and overall structure. Students can expect conversation and time to alter the work during this workshop.

It’s your turn to decorate the parking lot with your designs!  There are 2 days for painting:

• Day 1: We celebrate the start of the school year with the Senior Parking Spot Painting Party in the parking lot full of food, friends, and fun! Even if you don’t paint a spot, you are welcome to come and enjoy the party!
• Day 2: Continue the painting

TO PARTICIPATE:

1. Register on UltraCamp to purchase a Student Parking Pass by deadline above to be including in the initial random drawing of parking spaces in the senior lot.  (All seniors who wish to park in the senior lot must purchase a Student Parking Pass whether they paint their spot or not.)

3. Email a completed COLOR Design by 07/31/24
4. Purchase WATERBASED EXTERIOR LATEX PAINT in your selected colors; any needed brushes or rollers; duct tape; paint rags; and any other supplies you need. When you check in for the painting party, all paint will be inspected to ensure it adheres to the requirement of only waterbased exterior latex paint. You will need at least a gallon of paint for your base and likely a gallon for your design. Students have been most successful using rollers for the base. Many use brushes when painting their design.

DESIGN GUIDELINES:

1. Think of your spot like a t-shirt design.  It must meet dress code.

• Keep it classy
• Any design associated with gangs, drugs, alcohol, violence, obscenity, handicap symbols, or any symbols that may cause confusion or promote illegal activity will not be approved
• You may include your name, jersey number, instrument you play, hobby, famous quotes or slogans - anything unique that will meet administration approval.

2. Choose a basecoat on your parking spot.  Think of this like your background color.

3.   Designs will be four inches from all lines and parking spot numbers.
 

PAINTING:

1.   Students first apply a base coat, allowing a few hours to dry. Some will need a second base coat. Finally, students will paint the design.
2.   All students must clean up their materials after day 2. (Much of the cleaning fell on our chaperones and teachers in prior years, we don’t want to repeat that.)
3.   If you want to paint but will be out of town for the party, you must email Mr. Metger to schedule a time to paint.

Early Dismissal and Late Arrival are selected at time of Course Optioning.

Open Campus is extended to seniors who turn in a senior open campus privileges consent form signed by a parent.  Senior may go off campus during their lunch period and scheduled Study Hall, and must scan out when leaving and scan in upon their return. Open Campus begins 08/26/24.

• US 7-12 Convocation - August afternoon - Details

  • All Gr 12:  Pressed graduation gown, but no graduation cap or tassel
  • Gentlemen: Dress shirt, tie, dress pants, and dress shoes

  • Ladies: Dress or shirt and skirt/dress pants with dress shoes (no need to wear white)

Students are not always communicative and we want to make sure parents know all the ways we're working with their students, and how we will continue to guide them through the process. We invite senior parents to join us for an update about the college process, their students' journey to date, and general Q&A. This is generally in September and recorded so available for later viewing.

A financial aid professional talks parents through major changes to the FAFSA and basics of applying for university and college financial aid. This is generally in September in the theater and a video is posted in SCOIR.

Seniors meet with Jostens in the fall and receive information on graduation items.  Place orders online or return order form to school by deadline.

We encourage seniors to continue to visit colleges as needed and even schedule a day off in the fall for this purpose.

Families receive an email in October requesting confirmation of their senior’s full name for their diploma. Please respond by the stated deadline.

Parents join the US Principal on a March morning to discuss upcoming events for the end of senior year.

CHCA wants to celebrate with your family! In addition to multiple events, we'll provide a yardsign for your home and post your news on social media.

Creation evolved over time and so might your plans ... just complete (or recomplete) the "Future Plans" form (below) as decisions are made. Note: Some items have a March 1 deadline to allow for printing.

Prom Dance Policy: CHCA juniors and seniors may bring a sophomore as a guest.  A freshman cannot attend.  Watch the Campus Newsletter for specific information and how to purchase tickets.

Senior exams are generally the week before US 9-11 exams. Instructors will communicate any possible exam exemptions to students. If there is an absence during exam week, please see the instructor for a make-up date.

In this mid-May event, all US 9-12 students gather in the theater and each senior signs a letter of intent declaring their future plans.

In this end of year event that follows the Senior Signing, all US 9-12 students gather in the theater to enjoy a final chance for seniors to share special music or a talent.

Seniors desiring to participate should contact US chaplain by 04/18/24.

Celebrate your CHCA life's journey by coming back to where it all began!

Who: Seniors who began attending CHCA anytime between PK–Grade 8 (at EBL or Founders’ Campuses) and their parents.
Why: Reconnect with Gr K-8 teachers to share memories as you pour over forgotten yearbook pictures and early CHCA days.
Where: "Alumni Ampitheater" Promise Pathway (between the EBL and Founders' campus)
When: An afternoon in mid May

Eligible students and their families will receive an invitation in late spring.

We expect seniors to completely clean out their locker during the designated May Connection Bell and return any found school items. Cleaning supplies will be provided.

Tip: Remember to clean out athletic, instrumental, and other spaces as well.

www.chca-oh.org/Seniors provides links to remotely watch the Diasperio and Commencement services, celebrates accomplishments of our graduating class, profiles the Valedictorian and Salutatorian, and has a social media feed that highlights our graduates. It is generally updated in April for the graduating class and designed for you to share with family and friends to celebrate your graduate.

Diaspeiro is CHCA's equivalent of a Baccalaurate Mass and students are required to attend.  The term originates from "Diaspora" which refers to a large group of people who share a cultural and regional origin but are living away from their traditional homeland.

• Tickets:
  • Location: MSL Campus: Lindner Theatre so no extra tickets are available.
  • Each graduate commonly receives 4 tickets.
  • Diasperio and Commencements tickets are requested in mid-March.
  • Event is generally livestreamed.
•  The required rehearsal is the morning of Diaspeiro, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in Lindner Theater. Graduation rehearsal in the gym immediately follows.
• All seniors are required to attend this service.
• Parking: Graduates should park in the Snider Rd. auxiliary. Parents can park in the MSL lot, Snider Rd. auxiliary lot or Founders Campus lot (shuttles will be available from the Snider auxiliary lot and Founders Campus for Sunday’s graduation).
• Attire is similar to Commencement and graduates wear their ironed gowns, but no caps.
  • Males: shirt, tie, dress pants, and dress shoes
  • Females: dress, skirt/shirt, or dress pants/shirt with dress shoes
• Seniors report to their assigned room by 6:30 p.m. (room assignments and other instructions from Mrs. Ussery) with their ironed gown.
• For those unable to attend in person, the link for the live stream of Diaspeiro and Commencement is on www.chca-oh.org/Seniors    Please share this link with family and friends.
• Digital downloads by our professional videographer are usually available a week or two following graduation weekend. Ordering links will be posted on this webpage.

  • Each graduate commonly receives 8-10 tickets, depending on the size of the graduating class. Extra tickets may be available, but are not guaranteed.

• The required rehearsal is the day of Diasperio, following the Diasperio rehearsal.
• All seniors are required to attend this service.
• Attire is similar to Diasperio with the addition of the caps and tassels.  Graduates wear their ironed gowns over:
  • Males: shirt, tie, dress pants, and dress shoes
  • Females: dress, skirt/shirt, or dress pants/shirt with dress shoes
• Parking: Graduates should park in the Snider Rd. auxiliary. Parents can park in the MSL lot, Snider Rd. auxiliary lot or Founders Campus lot (shuttles will be available from the Snider auxiliary lot and Founders Campus for Sunday’s graduation).
• Seniors report to their assigned room first with their ironed gown, cap, and tassel; then dress and be ready in Miracle Commons by 1:45 p.m. for small group photos. The class photo immediately follows small group photos.
• Group yearbook photos begin at 2:00 p.m.
• The gym opens for seating at approximately 2:15 p.m. Please have your tickets with you as there is assigned seating.
• Students line up at 2:45 p.m. and march in at exactly 3:00 p.m.
   
• A CHCA backdrop will be in the theater lobby for photo opportunities after the ceremony.
• A school photographer will take pictures of each student receiving their diploma. Ordering links will be posted on this webpage with our school specific QR code. Once signed up using this code, you will receive an email when photos are available for viewing.

Diplomas are distributed to students in their assigned room immediately after commencement.  Since caps and gowns are property of the students, they are yours to keep.

Reminder:  All obligations (textbooks, athletic uniforms and equipment returned; lunch and other financial obligations, etc) must be paid by mid-May deadline or students will not receive their diploma.
