Student Government (9-12)

Grade levels: 9 - 12
Purpose:

Provide student leadership for school-wide activities, promote school pride, serve as a liaison between students and administration. Students involved in Student Body are held to a higher standard than others; they are the foremost leaders in the school and commit to working with their peers to improve the school community.

Student Body Officers are responsible for student-related homecoming events (spirit week, powder puff football, king/queen, dance), the year-long spirit competition, winter formal, teacher appreciation, two service projects, etc.
Grade Level Officers help direct grade-level activities and serve as class officers (President, Vice President, Media Relations, and Spiritual Life Leader.)  Juniors will have 2 additional officers who do not attend regular Thursday meetings.

Months: September - June
Meeting Days/Time:
  • Mondays at 2:50 p.m. during the Student Activity Bell
  • Grade Level Officers organize meetings outside of the Thursday meeting times and report progress to the larger group weekly or bi-weekly.
  • Support and participate in Student Body sponsored events including some after school and weekend hours.
Meeting Location: Simpson Innovation Space
Cost: Free!
Anticipated # of Students: About 22
Expected Parent Involvement: Transportation to Student Body events
Notes:
  • Officer positions are a commitment to serve the school and your classmates for the entire academic year
    • Student Body Officers are elected the previous spring
    • Grade Level Officers are elected in very early fall

For Grade Level Officers (early fall):

  • 08/25/21 - Candidacy Forms available at the front desk
  • 08/26/21 at 3:30 p.m. - Deadline to submit Candidacy Form. (Parent signature required) No late forms accepted!
  • 08/27/21 at 9:00 a.m. - Faculty/Administrative review complete; candidates notified of acceptance of candidacy
  • 08/27/21 - 09/01/21 - Campaigning may occur (All materials and speeches must be appropriate and respectful to other candidates; highlight your strengths, not your opponents’ weaknesses.  $20 limit)
  • 09/01/21 - Deadline to email Katie.Howarth@chca-oh.org link to 1-3 minute YouTube campaign speech
  • 09/02/21 - 09/03/21 - Student voting via a Google form
  • 09/06/21 - Results Announced
