Service at Upper School

The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation was established in 2003 to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers make in our communities and encourage more people to serve. The Council created the President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.

At CHCA, we award the PVSA in April, so tally your volunteer hours using a 04/01 - 03/31 calendar. Award recipients receive:

• A personalized certificate of achievement
• A congratulatory letter from the President of the United States

Note: Starting with our 2021 awards, the PVSA no longer accepts volunteer hours that include religious instruction, conducting worship service, or proselytizing. Unfortunately, this applies to teaching Sunday school and leading worship. These hours still count for high school graduation requirements, but cannot be applied to the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Grade 7-8:

1. Complete the Gr 7-8 Record of Service using hours volunteered from 04/01-03/31 (Make sure you secured all signatures.)
2. Turn it into the US 7-8 Assistant Principal by 04/06

Grade 9-12:

1. Log any remaining hours and ensure your service hours are updated with my.Innerview.org
2. Email Malia.Mumma@chca-oh.org to inform her what level (bronze, silver, gold) you qualify. She will verify your CHCA service hour record and validate your award level.

For the Inspiring Service Awards, all community service activities between 06/01 and 04/15 count - volunteering, tutoring, fundraising, running collection drives, organizing cleanups, donating blood - it all makes a difference and we want the world to see it!

The digital application process occurs automatically when a student records their service hours in Innerview and requires photos of the activities, projects, or people at the event. This streamlined submission creates a digital artifact to celebrate your impact and that you can use in job and scholarship interviews.

Award Levels:		MERIT AWARD 30 Hours of Service 4 Service Activities
		HONOR AWARD 60 Hours of Service 8 Service Activities
		AMBASSADOR AWARD 100 Hours of Service 12 Service Activities

Though 120 hours of community service are required for graduation, many CHCA students go above and beyond what’s asked of them. Each year, the Outreach Office recognizes seniors who have accrued 200 hours or more over their high school career and have recorded those hours in the guidance office by 04/10 of the senior year. Graduates completing over 400 service hours receive honors cords to wear during graduation. These awards acknowledge the time, efforts and talents our students have lent to causes through local, national and international outreach.

• Our seniors graduate with an average of 230 community service hours (191.6% of the requirement!)
• Our student body serves over 25,000 hours each year
• Some students have earned as many as 1,800 and 2,000 hours
   

Colleges, universities and scholarship committees like knowing students volunteer beyond what is required. Continue earning and recording service hours and joining SOS groups to deepen your community engagement.
