Upper 7-8 Information

Front Office

Grades 7/8 Social at Main Event in West Chester; Friday, 02/08/19 beginning after school until 7:00 p.m. pick-up. Parents need to provide transportation to and from Main Event.  Tickets are being sold this week at lunch for $21--price includes pizza/drink, laser tag, bowling, arcade games, ropes course, pool tables, and shuffleboard. 


Admissions

Secure your student's enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year by submitting your re-enrollment contract online before the 02/14/19 deadline. After that date, the re-enrollment deposit increases to $300/student and your student's spot is not guaranteed. Contact Admissions with any questions or to notify us if your student is not returning. 


Front Office

Are you feeling tired? The next Leaning Eagle Mini-Cup Coffee Bar will be Wednesday, 02/06/19 before school, lunch and during SDL.  Serving MSL Leaning Eagle Coffee Drinks, hot chocolate, lemonade and fresh baked goods.  Items range from $1-3 per item.

Following are the plans in place specifically for Upper School Grades 7/8 (same as 9-12 except start time)

Communication of a delay, closing, or an unplanned early release due to weather:  If school is officially delayed or closed or students will be released early for weather, the school messaging system will be used to contact families using the phone number(s) you provided when opting into the system. Local news and radio stations will also be notified and communicating that information for Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy.

  • Notifications of Change to Contact Information:  Email Registrar@chca-oh.org to update contact phone numbers used by our school messaging system.
  • For a delay:  Students will attend all classes with shortened bells starting at 9:55 a.m. Students may not arrive prior to 9:30 a.m.
  • For an unplanned early release due to weather:  In the event of an early release, afternoon bus service will likely not be available, and parents relying on bus transportation would need to contact their district’s school transportation department for confirmation.

Sign up by checking out details at www.chca-oh.org/myultimate. The deadline for registration is Friday, 02/15/19 and practices start on Tuesday, 02/19/19. The sport is co-ed for students 9-12. Contact coach Greg Bach (greg@bachland.com) or see team captain Jackson Myers with any questions.

Rummage Sale:

Our H20 for Life SOS student leaders will be hosting a giant rummage sale in the MSL High School Gym on Saturday, 04/27/19. We will be collecting donations during the month of April. Stay tuned for more information! Or call Barb Holthaus in the SOS/Outreach Office, ext 314. 

Spring Break Service Immersion – Mountain TOP, Tennessee:

Students in grades 9-12 are invited to join us for this meaningful and fun service experience in the Cumberland mountains. Students will depart on Sunday, 04/17/19 and return on Wednesday evening, 04/20/19. Cost is $200. Check Ultra Camp for details and registration.

Night for the Fight:

On 02/23/19 over 1300 high school students will come together for Cancer Free KIDS’ Night for the Fight. This event not only raises money but inspires students to join the battle to eliminate childhood cancer. Students in grades 9-12 are invited to build a team of 6-15 participants and join us in support of fighting childhood cancer. To register as a CHCA team, find one adult chaperone over the age of 24, and gather your friends to participate. Registration and information here. Students who are interested can join us this Monday, 02/04/19 at 7:30 a.m. for an information meeting with the Night for the Fight coordinator in the MSL High School Cafeteria.

This week's Beacons of the Week are the grade 7/8 students who attended their first Power of the Pen competition this past week! Thanks to requests from students and the dedication of grade 7 Literature Teacher, Mimi Ehlen, this is the first CHCA group to be a part of the writing competition. Grade 8 student, Carley Millette, placed 12th in her age group! The rest of the team is awaiting results to see if they will go on to Regionals, which will be held in March. Well done to (grade 7) Kyla Turvey and Ava Van Kuren and (grade 8) Hannah Medlin, Carley Millette, Abby Rosenfeldt, and Charlotte Xia.

Dr. Dean Nicholas, Upper School Principal

The Principal Study with Dr. Nicholas will be meeting each Wednesday this semester from 9:30a.m. - 10:30a.m. beginning 01/30/19 in the Simpson Innovation Space (2nd floor) at the MSL High School building.  This year we will continue our study of the Gospel of Matthew.  Matthew was written to Jewish believers to proclaim that Jesus was their Messiah.  We will study how this “Jewish Gospel” shows Jesus to be the fulfillment of Old Testament Scriptures.  Bring your Bibles as we explore God’s word!  Please see https://www.chca-oh.org/my-all-school/chapel for details.
