Fifth grader Beckham Romanello is the 2019 CHCA Spelling Bee Champion. He placed first out of 24 contestants in grades 5-8, outlasting 8th grader Kate Sandstrom (2nd place) and his brother, 8th grader Baylen Romanello (3rd place). Beckham will now take an online test; if he scores well, he will qualify for the WCPO 9 On Your Side Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held on March 16 at CHCA’s Lindner Theater. The winner of the Regional Bee qualifies for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.

Congratulations to the following 24 students in grades 5-8 who qualified to participate in this year’s school spelling bee by placing at the top of their Language Arts classroom bees:

5th Grade: Hilary Burns, Christina Gibson, Andrew Lott, Tessa McCracken, Anna Moffitt, Chichi Quo, Beckham Romanello, Gabe Stuck.
6th Grade: Martina Andaluz, Kaitlynn Comstock, Alex Hernandez, Addi Maloney, Caleb Rosenfeldt, Trent Yelton.
7th Grade: Alex Bruner, Allie Heimlich, Eli Hesketh, Jacob Kaesemeyer, Johnny Matsey, Olivia Noh.
8th Grade: Tara Chalasani, Ethan Long, Baylen Romanello, Kate Sandstrom.


Front Office

Grades 7/8 Social at Main Event in West Chester; Friday, 02/08/19 beginning after school - 7:00 p.m. Parents need to provide transportation to and from Main Event.  Tickets will be sold the week of 01/28 at lunch for $21--price includes pizza/drink, laser tag, bowling, arcade games, ropes course, pool tables, and shuffleboard.

This week nearly forty of our Grades 7/8 students had the privilege of hearing CHCA parents Leah Stark, Stacy Blomeke, and Amy Brenner speak about leadership, career preparation, character, Christ’s example, and the value of volunteerism and hard work. The speakers shared helpful advice, their own career path experiences, and answered several questions students submitted ahead of time.

Friday, 01/25/19 students dismiss at 11:30 a.m.  There will be no afternoon bus service. We will be on abbreviated schedule visiting each bell in the a.m. Parents are to contact teacher’s directly to set up conferences if needed.

No chapel Friday, 2/1.  Instead, it will be on Wednesday, 1/30 from 10:30-11:20 a.m.

Kona Ice is coming to Founders' Campus! Thursday, 01/24 at lunch time. 40% of proceeds benefit SOS carnival at Stewart Elementary in the Spring. Items will be sold for $3-5.

Parents should not send a student to school or to an extra-curricular or athletic activity who has the following:  
• Has a fever of at least 100 degrees. Should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of any medication 24 hours before returning to school. 
• Has thrown up or had three or more watery or loose diarrhea stools any time in the last 24 hours. 
• Has an upper respiratory infection with uncontrolled nasal drainage, coughing or sneezing that may infect others. 
• Was sent home from school the previous day or same day with a fever. 
• Has a significant rash that has not been diagnosed by a physician. 
• Is complaining of substantial pain for a significant duration until a physician has examined the student. 
• Is taking prescription-strength medication, which impairs their ability to stay awake/alert and safely navigate stairs and hallways. 

If a student becomes ill during school hours, the nurse or office staff will call the parents. Health Services will not release any student to a passenger service (Taxi, Uber, etc.) for transportation. If the school is unable to reach the parents, names listed on the emergency medical authorization form will be contacted. Ill or injured students cannot be kept in the nursing clinic for more than one hour.

  • For a delay:  Students will attend all classes with shortened bells starting at 9:55 a.m. Students may not arrive prior to 9:30 a.m.
  • For an unplanned early release due to weather:  In the event of an early release, afternoon bus service will likely not be available, and parents relying on bus transportation would need to contact their district’s school transportation department for confirmation.

9-12 Front Office

Following are the plans in place specifically for Upper School Grades 9-12:

The ArtBeat homepage is online and audition registrations are open!  The all-school, all-day festival is on 04/13/19.  Auditions will be 01/30/19, 02/04/19, and 02/06/19 from 4:00pm – 8:30pm in Lindner Theater and registrations are open!  The audition registration deadlines are 01/25/19 for PK-Gr 8, and 02/01/19 for Gr 9-12.  Don't worry if you have questions!  Everything you need to know about ArtBeat can be found here:  www.chca-oh.org/ArtBeat.

Starting 01/31/19, we begin a new journey to study 2 Corinthians. Kelly Minter will lead us through the Letter of 2 Corinthians, exploring the anchoring truths of bearing treasures in jars of clay, meeting Christ through a pressing thorn, opening wide your heart during hurtful relationships and what it means to embrace the lost and lonely as ministers of the new covenant.  Meeting dates are 01/31/19, 02/07/19, 02/21/19, 02/28/19, 03/07/19, 03/14/19, 03/28/19 and 04/04/19 from 8:35 a.m.-10:05 a.m.  Please email blakelthompson@gmail.com if you are interested and she will email the location upon sign up.

CHCA is partnering with Back2Back Ministries in joining a mission to become a trauma-informed community.  Our faculty and staff are participating in an in-service day work session with Back2Back in February,  and we are inviting our parent community to learn more and get informed as well. We will be hosting a presentation just for parents in the Lindner Theater on Wednesday, 02/20/19, from 7:00-9:00 p.m.  We hope you will be able to attend.
