National Junior Honor Society

Grade levels: 7-8
Purpose: To create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students.
Months: School Year
Practice Day(s) / Time of the Week: Meet once a month as a whole group based on student's schedules, smaller groups meet before, during, and after school hours to work on NJHS projects, announcements, etc. Typical activities include service activities and fund raisers. (Examples: See You at the Pole, Thanksgiving Baskets, and Mission Possible)
Practice Location: Founders Campus Classroom
Competition/Performance Schedule: n/a
Cost: Annual Dues are $20
Anticipated # of Students: 30-50
Expected Parent Involvement: Help organize items for the Thanksgiving baskets, etc.; provide snacks; drive to off campus volunteer events; can volunteer alongside their child at events.
Notes:
  • Grade 7 students desiring consideration for an officer position write an additional essay that is reviewed by the NJHS faculty advisors. Officers are typically announced during the first quarter.
  • Service Hour form (Also used for the Presidential Service Award)

How Do You Register: NJHS is by invitation only; students must have and maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA and show leadership, character, service, and scholarship. Students complete an activities page and write an essay about their interest in NJHS. A faculty council reviews each student’s entire application and determines if they meet membership criteria.
Register by: Invitations are usually extended at the beginning of 4th quarter 7th grade for the following year.
