Genesis Jazz

Grade Levels: 6-8 grade musicians (saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, piano, bass, drum set)
Purpose: Offer a challenging and rewarding musical experience for students on all jazz band instruments, an outlet for exercising and sharing musical gifts, and an opportunity for learning jazz and related styles. Depending on instrument, Genesis Jazz musicians also prepare and perform Premier Pops music and perform with that ensemble at concerts.
Months: September - May
Practice Schedule: Tuesdays  3:20-4:30 p.m.
Practice Location: Founders' Campus band facilities
Performance Schedule: December – Founders' Campus Gr 5-8 Christmas Concert – Weekday evening Mid December - Additional Christmas Performances
April – ArtBeat – Saturday Afternoon
May - Upper 9-12 Spring Jazz Concert - Friday evening
May – Founders' Campus Gr 5-8 Band Concert – Weekday evening
Additional performances in the Cincinnati area are possible throughout the year
Cost: $150 annual fee; $25 late registration fee starts 09/01/23

Although musicians in Premier Pops and Genesis Jazz must register online for both ensembles, they only pay $150 total. A discount will be automatically applied at registration.
Anticipated # of Students: 20
Expected Parent Involvement:
  • Coordinate volunteer efforts (e.g. order costumes, arrange transportation for practices at the MSL campus)
  • Transportation to some off-site performances/rehearsals
  • Set-up/strike performance areas
  • Assist with performance management
  • Provide snacks for rehearsals
