A: Yes.  If you choose to go remote for the entire quarter, you are permitted to forgo that commitment and come back early.

R:  We believe that children benefit from being in school.  We believe that the relational aspect of teaching is vital to a child’s achievement and social-emotional well-being.  We believe that we are doing everything within our control to create and maintain a safe environment. In addition, remote learning is difficult on the teachers as they try to teach in two separate worlds at one time.  Therefore, teaching and learning efficiency is increased by having more students learning live within the building.

A:  Students are only permitted to remote into lessons when they have committed to going remote for a given amount of time or are home for documented reasons related to COVID.

R:  It is extremely difficult to manage students coming and going into remote learning.  Remote learning puts increased pressure on the teachers and requires additional time to prepare.  We simply cannot have a policy that enables students to choose whether or not they are going to come into school or just remote in each day.  In order to maintain policies and procedures that are manageable, we need to limit remote learning to documented COVID related time away from the building.

A:  If you suspect that your child may have COVID, we ask that you get him/her tested.  While you wait for results, the teachers will organize missed work and help your child to catch up when he/she returns to school.  A COVID related absence is defined as receiving a positive result for COVID and/or being identified as a close contact of someone that has tested positive. If your child tests positive or has been identified as a close contact, notify the school and he/she can begin the 14-day quarantine with remote learning.

R:  It is more manageable for teachers to work with your child to catch up than it is to implement effective remote learning.  In addition, the 14-day quarantine begins after receiving a positive COVID test or having been identified as a close contact of someone that has tested positive.

A:  As soon as you have been identified as a close contact and are asked to quarantine, notify the school.  Once we are notified, the COVID related absence begins and your child will be approved for remote learning.

R:  A COVID related absence begins when a student tests positive and or is identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive.  The learning curve when transitioning to remote learning requires time and perseverance for both the teacher and the student.  It would not be an efficient use of anyone’s time and energy to go through that process unless the student is going to be out for a significant amount of time.

A#:  Remote learning will begin the following day.  Please understand that there is a learning curve for students and families beginning the remote learning process.  We ask for your patience as our teachers attempt to help your child transition to remote learning while continuing to instruct students within the building.

R*: Tricia Marmer is our school nurse and is in charge of COVID tracking and communication for Founders’ Campus.  Mr. Sideris will notify teachers and manage procedures and protocols for Upper E.  

R#:  Timing of classes and activities are flexible in schools.  Unlike a professional setting in which meetings begin at the exact time in which they are scheduled, elementary schools do not operate in such a manner.  Everything in an elementary school is fluid and flexible as there are a limitless number of factors that affect every lesson and procedure throughout the day. Nothing in an elementary school ever goes perfectly as planned! That is the nature of working with large numbers of children.  All of this to say, classes may start later than what is on the schedule.  If your child is in the waiting room, please be patient and we will open the Zoom when the activity begins.  If something goes wrong, email the teacher and he/she will follow up with your child at a later time and catch her/him up on what was missed.

A:  Please don’t do that! 

R:  You as a parent have already graduated from grades 4-6.  No need to do it again!  Please keep in mind that this is your child’s class and for him/her to learn and grow, he/she needs to be actively engaged in the lesson.  Even if he/she struggles at first, there is learning from perseverance and adaptability.  Often the student understands the procedures better than the parent because he/she has been in the classroom and has received the direct instruction required to complete the lesson.  Also, our teachers often act silly, sing, dance, etc. in order to enhance student engagement.  It is really difficult to teach in this manner with parents looking in.  It feels incredibly awkward and discourages them from being fun and engaging.

A:  Your child should email the teacher and she/he will follow up at a later time.  This will probably happen at some point.  Don’t panic.  We will help your child catch up at a later time.

R:  Calling the office distracts our office staff and then creates a distraction in the classroom when they call in to notify the teacher.  This then creates a stressful situation for the teacher that is trying to instruct other remote students and those learning in the classroom.  It is more productive to allow us to follow up with your child at a later time.
